Local authority employee Jamie Horton is the new face on the board of Castletown Commissioners after winning Thursday’s by-election.

Mr Horton, 46, topped the polled with 408 votes.

He will serve on the board until April 2020.

Turn-out at the election was 33 per cent.

Jamie Horton, 46, who works for Port Erin Commisioners, has lived all his life in Castletown.

He previously worked at Ronaldsway Aircraft, Ronaldsway Shoe Company and Colas. He is a local DJ and his partner Ellen Corkish runs the Bowling Green Cafe in Castletown.

In his manifesto he said he was very passionate about town and is ’vociferous’ in its defence. He said the town needed to pull together to survive.

Former police officer Julie Bareham came second in the by-election with 284 votes while civil servant Pamela Rice picked up 64 votes.

The by-election was held after former commissioner James Barrow stood down earlier this year.
