Liberal Vannin MHK Lawrie Hooper (Ramsey) has hit out at colleagues for not extending question time during the last sitting of this political year.

There had been 49 questions for oral answer today, however when questions finished just after 1.10pm, only 21 had been covered.

This is the last Tynwald sitting of the parliamentary year with members not returning to Tynwald before October.

A vote to extend question time was rejected by members which Mr Hooper said meant MHKs had ’let down their constituents’.

The remainder of the oral questions will be answered in writing.

Mr Hooper Tweeted: ’Shocking that a number of MHKs (including backbenchers!) voted against finishing oral questions just now - are they afraid of the answers?

’Disgraceful. Effective scrutiny is essential to good government and those MHKs have let their constituents down today.’
