Unemployment has fallen again as the Manx economy recovers from Covid lockdown.

The number registered out of work at the end of August stood at exactly 1,000.

This figure represents a fall of 100 from the previous month, but is still an increase of 663 compared to the same month last year.

Unemployment peaked at 1,347 in April following the Covid outbreak.

But it fell as sectors of the economy returned to work and as the lockdown was lifted in June.

The unemployment rate, the proportion of the economically active population registered out of work was 2.3% in August, down from 2.6% in July.

There were 655 job vacancies notified to the Job Centre during the month, a decrease of 27 compared to July. At the end of the month, 434 remained.

Of these, 60% (262) were full-time positions and 40% (172) were part-time.

Sectors with the highest number of unemployed include catering, retail distribution, tourist accommodation and unskilled construction.

International Labour Organisation estimates, which include those out of work but not actually registered unemployed, put the jobless figure at 1,895 in August, compared with 2,145 in July - an unemployment rate of 4.4%.
