Some Onchan residents are still confused about which House of Keys constituency they belong to, according to local commissioners who have decided to revisit the issue.
In 2016, a review committee oversaw a restructuring of the Keys electoral boundaries, to create the 12 current constituencies.
As part of this, almost 2,500 residents in the Howstrake area of Onchan were placed in the newly-formed Garff, split from the rest of the district.
The move was a deliberate effort to ’even out’ the population sizes of the constituencies, with both now having roughly 5,000 registered voters.
It was part of a larger reorganisation of constituencies.
Until the last election in 2016, there were a mixture of three-seat, two-seat and single-seat constituencies.
When the electoral map was redrawn before the 2016 election, all Keys constituencies bar one include full local authority areas.
So Middle includes all of Santon, Marown and Braddan, for example, while Douglas is divided into four constituencies.
The only local authority area that was split was Onchan.
The bigger Garff constituency covers an area stretching from the Ramsey border to Howstrake in Onchan. It also encompasses Laxey and Maughold.
In the House of Keys, the constituents are represented by Daphne Caine and Martyn Perkins.
But all of Onchan district, including the Howstrake area, is still served at a local level by Onchan Comissioners.
Onchan Commissioners’ chairman Robin Turton says some ratepayers feel confused by the current situation. The board is due to discuss the issue tonight.
