More than one third of people on the electoral register are exempt from jury service.

The figure was confirmed by Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas, who said: ’From the 61,082 people on the current electoral register, as at October 1, 2017, 21,555 persons are jury exempt.’

He was responding to Tynwald question from Speaker Juan Watterson, who also wanted a breakdown of numbers in exemption categories, but Mr Thomas said that information was not part of the data collected.
