Posties have voted ’yes’ for industrial action - and will take part in a two-day strike next week.

They plan to walk out on Thursday and Friday (December 13 and 14) in a dispute over changes to terms and conditions.

There was overwhelming support for industrial action with 93% of members of the Communications’ Workers Union voting ’yes’ in a ballot which closed today (Tuesday).

Turn-out was 91%.

Terry Pullinger, deputy general secretary of the CWU’s postal section, said: ’It’s a massive vote of no confidence in the board and the way things have been mis-managed.’

The CWU has notified the intention to take strike action on December 13 and 14 but said it has also offered the opportunity for 'intense and genuine' negotiations on December 10-12 in the hope that 'common sense will prevail and an agreement can be reached'.Mr Pullinger said: 'The Isle of Man postal workers have been in dispute with the IoM Post Office for many months.'They are faced with fait acompli proposals that represent a hugely aggressive attack on CWU members’ employment, standard of living and retirement security, the next generation of postal workers and a great public service.'These proposals are totally disproportionate to the challenges the industry faces and unnecessary.'
