The thoughts of the island are with the UK prime minister Boris Johnson as he battles coronavirus.

Doctors treating the PM at London’s St Thomas’s Hospital, London, moved him to intensive care after his Covid-19 symptoms worsened last night.

Treasury minister Alfred Cannan MHK said: ’Clearly it was a shock to see the events unfolding last night and on behalf of everyone on this island we wish him every success in this battle against this virus.’

He went on to confirm strong links are continuing to be maintained with the government across.

He said: ’There are strong links with the UK Government, I know the Chief Minister has been communicating with senior ministers across in the UK and we too in Treasury have stong links with HM Treasury and those communication lines are open.

’It is absolutely important that we maintain that line of communication and I know the Chief Minister has dealt with a number of issues through utilising the contacts that he has built up over the last four years or so.

UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has been formally put in charge of the PM’s day to day responsibilities.
