Voters in a Douglas ward go to the polls today (Thursday).
Four candidates have come forward for the vacant seat on Douglas Borough Council.
Helen Callow, who is retired and lives on Woodbourne Road, civil servant Richard Halsall, of Glen Falcon Terrace, company director Charlton Krentz of Princes Road and Kieran Lavery, of Springfield Avenue, have all been nominated for the vacancy in St George’s Ward.
The vacancy came after former ward councillor Cat Turner had to step down.
She was jailed in April for drink driving offences.
Polling in St George’s ward opened at 8am today and will continue to 8pm.
The polling stations for today’s by-election are at All Saints’ Church hall, Alexander Drive, for the Ballabrooie and Eastfield polling districts and the Scout Hall on Desmesne Road for St George’s polling district.
Ms Turner, of Westminster Terrace, was jailed for 20 weeks after admitting drink-driving twice in two months.
She was also banned from driving for eight years by magistrates.
Turner was arrested after driving on November 7 with a breathalyser test producing a reading of 98 - the legal limit is 35.
She was then arrested after driving again on December 29, while on bail for the first offence, this time failing a breathalyser test with a reading 97.
She was sentenced to eight weeks for the first offence and 12 for the second, to run consecutively.
Turner must also retake and pass her test at the end of her eight-year ban.
