People will have an opportunity to learn more about the 2018 Budget when the Treasury hosts a public meeting in Peel tonight (Wednesday).

The event at the Centenary Centre will highlight the measures announced in Tynwald that the government hopes will ’re-energise’ investment in the Manx economy, ’refocus’ welfare support and ’redefine’ capital spending.

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK will open proceedings at 7.30pm with a presentation outlining the main points from this year’s Budget.

This will be followed by a chance to put questions to the Minister and Treasury Members Bill Shimmins MHK, Ralph Peake MHK and Bill Henderson MLC.

Mr Cannan said: ’This year’s Budget focused on our diverse economy and meeting the financial challenges facing the government and island citizens.

’A responsible approach to public finances is still an absolute priority, but we are also working hard to put more money in people’s pockets and to improve their personal circumstances.’

Members of the audience at the Peel Centenary Centre will have the option of asking a question during the open Q&A session or submitting a written question to the Treasury team.

People will be able to send in a question from their phone; alternatively forms will be available on the night which can be completed and placed in a box at the side of the main stage.

The meeting will start at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 7pm. It is free to attend and open to all members of the public.

There is a limit on the number of people the venue can accommodate and seats will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
