Port St Mary RNLI launched its all-weather lifeboat on Tuesday at 9.30pm.

The Gough Ritchie II lifeboat was deployed at the request of Belfast Coastguard in order to investigate a report of a swimmer about half a mile off Douglas Breakwater.

A significant number of volunteer crew members were already at Port St Mary lifeboat station undergoing a debrief of the evening exercise.

Under the command of coxswain Michael Keggen, the Trent class lifeboat slipped its moorings at 9.38pm and proceeded out of Port St Mary harbour before they were told to stand down as the person had made their own way ashore.

The lifeboat returned to station, and was refuelled and ready for service by 9:50pm.
