More than 600 primary school pupils will take to the Villa Marina Royal Hall stage for the ultimate singing extravaganza this summer.

’The Sound of Stories’ will take place on Wednesday, June 12, and features a variety of songs from films and musicals that have been adapted from books, stories and tales.

Twenty-three primary schools, plus two singing schools and choirs, will take part in the concert.

Organiser Katie Lawrence, a music teacher at Ballacottier School, said: ’The concert will showcase classics and family favourites from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Aladdin, Mary Poppins, Matilda, Wicked, Oliver and The Little Mermaid, among others.

’It’s an opportunity for the children to just have fun and enjoy singing alongside their friends, without any sort of competition pressure.

’I’ve wanted to bring this idea to life for some time now and I decided 2019 would be the year I finally put it into action.

’There will be a live band and the evening promises to be something really special - certainly a feel-good night to remember!’

Douglas-based management consultancy company Auxesia is sponsoring the concert.

Belinda Watson, its finance director, said: ’The Sound of Stories is going to be a spectacular concert which brings children and families across the island together for an evening of cheer.

’It isn’t a competition and the schools won’t be going head-to-head - it is all about togetherness and the simple joy of singing.’

Tickets for The Sound of Stories are £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s and are available to buy online from www.villagaiety.com or by calling the Villa Gaiety ticket hotline on 600555.
