A group of pro-life demonstrators displayed anti-abortion signs outside the University College Isle of Man, inciting mixed reactions.
About seven people took part in the demonstration which was held on the public pavement opposite the college on Homefield Road yesterday (Monday).
The college was not informed of the display, but the police were, said organiser Ros Taisia.
’We want to find out about their opinions and give them some information.’ Images on the posters were of foetuses in the womb, rather than aborted foetuses,’ she said.
Ros said some students were ’brilliant in their responses’ and that some made their own signs in protest.
One of these students included Davina Felix, aged 17.
She said: ’I was appalled because I support pro-choice and I was gobsmacked that they were able to stand outside the college and protest like that. A lot of us didn’t know [the demonstration was happening].’
She made a banner herself with ’Pro-Choice’ written on it and stood facing the demonstrators.
We asked UCM for a comment but they had not responded when the Examiner went to press.
