The site of the Premier Inn hotel being built in Douglas was a hive of activity last week.

A large crane was pictured towering over the site behind Marks and Spencer in Market Street.

And several workers were at work at the ground level too.

Plans for the budget hotel to open in Douglas were approved last year.

The planning application (17/00823/B) was submitted to planners by Dandara Commercial Ltd for an 85-bedroom hotel with a restaurant and bar.

Foundation works got under way on the site in January, with Market Street being closed for a week while excavation works were carried out.

Permission is in place for a section of the road to be closed to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and for the one-way traffic system on the whole road to be suspended, when necessary for the work until July 20.

The budget hotel chain has more than 750 hotels around the UK.
