Strong winds and a high tide have forced the closure of part of Douglas Promenade.

The southern section between the Sea Terminal and Broadway was shut at 11.50am on Saturday morning with waves crashing onto the walkway which is currently being used by south-bound traffic because of the ongoing redevelopment works.

Police and the Department of Infrastructure are on the scene to prevent access. Walkers are asked to avoid the area.

A further update will be provided at 4pm.

Earlier in the day, the strong winds caused a tree to fall and block the road at the entrance to Clay Head Road in Baldrine. This has since been cleared by the DoI and is open again to traffic.
