A £475,000 project to reconstruct Lezayre Road in Ramsey is due to get underway straight after TT Week.

The project is scheduled to run from June 10 to August 10 and will involve the closure of the junction of Bircham Avenue and Lezayre Road for about six weeks.

The scheme will see a one kilometre section of road surface removed during the working day and the new road surface laid in the evening.

A cycle lane will be installed as part of the work.

The works at Bircham Avenue junction will make provision for a connection to a proposed new water main in the future, avoiding further disruption on Lezayre Road

Throughout the construction period, motorists heading north into Ramsey on the TT Course will be directed to turn left at Sulby Bridge and follow a diversion route.

Traffic heading out of Ramsey town centre towards the west will be diverted from Parliament Square to the A13 Jurby Road and onwards to Sulby Bridge. There will be no direct access for vehicles to Ramsey Grammar School from the town centre.

Pedestrian access to schools and properties on Lezayre Road will be maintained throughout the works.

Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer MHK said: ’I am pleased the department has been given the opportunity to bring further improvements to the town.’
