Bright but impoverished young people from third world countries will benefit from a function which raised £5,000 for the charity Pestalozzi.

The charity accommodates young people at its base at Sedlescombe in East Sussex, educates them to International Baccalaureate level and assists in enrolling them at university.

The ultimate ambition is for the youngster to return to their native country and help in their chosen area of expertise, which ranges from medicine to engineering.

Scores of people attended the fundraising event, which was held at the home of Nigel and Lorraine Wood, at Ballavale Barns in Santon.

The island branch of the Pestalozzi charity is one of the highest donors.
