Have you ever watched this programme on telly called Family Guy?

If you haven’t, don’t.

If you have, you’ll never get away from it. You will be hooked.

It’s a bit like the Trump administration, as in it’s so bad, it’s funny.

Although, when you think about it, there is no way that you could ever describe the behaviour of Trump and his acolytes as funny.

The latest episode in the saga of Donny and the dinosaurs is best described as frightening. It’s nothing less than an incitement to riot.

The position of President of the United States of America is as high as you can get. He is the most powerful man in the world. He should be behaving like a world leader, not like the gibbering idiot that he insists on imitating.

The American President and his position should be respected by his fellow world leaders.

To put things into perspective, he should be the leader of the pack. For example if the Chinese chairman or the North Korean leader tries dipping a toe in America’s water, they should be brought up short and have their knuckles rapped without hesitation.

But when they see the way that Trump is behaving in his own country, I’m sure that they can’t believe their eyes.

If this is democracy at work, bring back Chairman Mao. And what about Kim jong-un, the head of the North Korean ballistic missile threat to world peace?

He must be rubbing his hands with excitement at the thought of western political chaos.

And we mustn’t forget the Middle East.

I wouldn’t anticipate a rush on sales of ’get well soon’ cards in the shops in down-town Tehran and Baghdad, and addressed to Western Democracy.

The problems that face the ’new boy’ in the White House would be best described as unique.

President elect, Joe Biden has inherited a nightmare. Unfortunately for him (and for every other American for that matter) the small print is yet to be discovered.

For instance, think about the pandemic.

It was many months before Trump would even admit that there was a problem.

This was the President who preached to his people that wearing face masks was for wimps, not for Americans.

The anthem ’Stars and Stripes’ includes the words ’God Bless America’. Perhaps it should be changed to ’God help America’.

Now can anyone answer this question?

Just what inspires someone to want to be a politician? It can’t be the wages. For example, the basic starting salary of an MHK is about £45,000.

The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnston is leading his country through some of the most difficult problems ever to be faced by a peacetime British parliament.

Now, I have no idea how much the Prime Minister picks up every week and, let’s be fair, who’s to judge if he’s worth it? But would you do his job?

I can remember many Prime Ministers and I can remember many national emergencies. Strikes, floods, wars, banks collapsing, terrorist attacks, and blocks of flats on fire.

You name it, I’ve seen it happen.

But I have never known anything like this pandemic.

The way that it is behaving is frightening.

You would swear that it knew what it was doing.

Some of the world’s best brains in the field of medicine and epidemiology have been working miracles and, as we speak, vaccines are already making a counter attack.

But what would make me feel that we were just a little bit closer to winning the war would be when the politicians started singing from the same hymn book.

After all, we are supposed to be playing for the same team.

Many years ago Pullyman - aka Michael Cowin - was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a condition that affects people in different ways. Michael discovered writing and Island Life is featuring some of his musings. Sometimes topical, sometimes nostalgic, read about life as seen through the eyes of Pullyman
