Katie Lawrence lives in Peel, but is originally a Kirk Michael girl.
She is the music coordinator and choir teacher at Ballacottier School, where she is currently in my 13th year of teaching.
Later this year she takes the choir to the Llangollen National Eisteddfod, in Wales.
She says she is eternally grateful to her former boss John Rhodes for her current position
.What is your idea of a perfect meal?
I’ll eat most stuff but I don’t do spicy food. Or sprouts.
What is your favourite way to relax?
I’m rubbish at relaxing, but maybe watching a good film. Back to the Future is my favourite. That or a music jam session somewhere.
What is your greatest extravagance?
I’m not really that extravagant, but I would say the last car I bought and the violin I currently play.
Do you have any pets?
No, but I’d love a dog.
What is your greatest achievement?
There are lots to mention really, but I’m proud of completing 5 years at university, playing in the pit at the Gaiety and having represented the Isle of Man at various festivals in Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall and Brittany.
What is your favourite time of the year?
Summer, from TT onwards. I’m not great in the winter!
What is the first job you ever had?
It was in Dave’s shop in Kirk Michael, at the bottom of the Baltic Road.
Do you have any irrational fears?
I switch off and unplug all the appliances in the kitchen before going to bed. I have no idea why!
What is your worst habit? Worrying too much about things.
What is your favourite book?
I used to read loads as a kid but I don’t as much at the moment. I do like the Harry Potter books, and there is a lot in there that the films missed out. Justice for house elves!
What is your favourite TV programme?
It changes from time to time, but I quite like Peaky Blinders and Narcos. I’ve just finished watching Fargo too.
What is your favourite band/artist at the moment?
I literally have no clue. There’s so much music around that this changes from day to day! Different music for different moods.
What is your favourite part of the Isle of Man?
I love Peel but then I’m biased. I’ve been here nearly 12 years now. Elsewhere, Niarbyl is lovely. A peaceful place.
What is the last show/band that you saw live?
Collabro, because the school choir sung the same night! I need to get to more gigs really, as you can’t beat live music.
If time/money were no object, what would be your perfect day?
I would go out for a run, then play the piano, and finish by watching a film in glorious surround sound.
Choose three people, dead or alive, to invite to dinner?
Can I have 4? My dad’s parents, as I never met them. I’d loved to have spoken to my dad’s mum about her playing career. Plus my mum’s parents. Grandad was an absolute legend and I miss him.
Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings?
Harry Potter.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs.
Birthday or Christmas? Birthday.
Quiet night in or night out? Can I say both?
