Players, members and supporters of Colby FC have raised £1,440 for Isle of Man Breast Care.

The club raised the money at a race night, organised by committee member Richie Beech.

Mr Beech commented that the club was proud to support the charity, it being close to his heart after the death of his wife Lou earlier this year.

He said: ’This is the third year we have organised a race night and we raised £1,440 which was a great improvement on last year’s £800.

’We first organised the night because it supported us while my wife was going through everything.

’It is just such a great charity. Sadly, Lou passed away in January this year, but I know that she would want us to continue supporting the charity.’

During the night, those in attendance could bet on old horse races which were shown on a big screen.

Mr Beech confirmed the event is scheduled to return to the club next year as he plans to make it a continuing annual tradition.

The charity welcomed the donation and expressed its thanks on its Facebook page.

The post said: ’Thank you, thank you, thank you!

’To everyone at Colby Football Club, especially Richie Beech, for a fabulous donation of £1,440.’
