The Children’s Centre’s annual Race the Sun event raised £12.500, the charity revealed this week after it totted up the total.

The event saw 26 teams - more than 260 people - running around the island.

They ran a course of 100 miles on Raad ny Foillan, the coastal footpath, in relays ranging from 6.5 to 12 miles.

Thie first team left from Peel at 5.08am, with the last team finishing just before 9.21pm, covering 16 hours, 13 minutes and 20 seconds of daylight.

It took place on May

The winning team was won by Woodbourne Wanderers, with the Sheros taking the fastest women’s team prize.

The funds raised will benefit the children, young people and their families who use the charitable services at the charity.

The charitable services team offer a plan of support, which would include access to family support, outdoor activities (Mobex) or activities at the Children’s Centre Farm.

Each case goes through a referral process.

Lisa Motley, fundraising team leader, said: ’It was a fantastic event. The weather was great, if a bit warm at times but everyone seemed to enjoy the event and promised to be back next year.

’These funds will have a real impact on the continuation of our much needed and valued services to families with additional needs. One hundred per cent of the money raised goes towards The Children’s Centre charitable projects.’

The event was sponsored by Knox House Trust.

Anthony Page, managing director of Knox House Trust, said: ’We were delighted to be involved with this fantastic event.

’It is a real community effort that raises valuable funds for a unique charity on the island.

’Everyone here at KHT feels proud that we were in a position to assist the charity and support them with the incredible work they do for children, young people and families within the Isle of Man.’

For 2019 the event will be on Saturday, May 18.
