The following servicemen will be commemorated at Ramsey War Memorial during August, 100 years after they lost their lives in the Great War:
August 1: Private Ernest J. Clarey, who died at the Battle of Passchendaele, aged 26, leaving a widow and two children. He was a painter and decorator before enlisting. Records show that he qualified for the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
August 1: Corporal Charles Sayle, of Shipyard Road, Ramsey who was killed in action in France aged 39.
August 2: Private Stanley Quayle, killed in a casualty clearing station in France, aged 19. He had been in France a year to the date of his death, which was due to shot wounds in the back. He had survived the Battle of the Somme and was also in action at Ypres.
August 7: Private William Christian, killed in action in France aged 21. He was a loyal member of the Wesleyan Sunday School and worked as a plumber for six years prior to enlisting.
August 11: Private Ernest Kennish, killed in action in France aged 27. He had seen service in Egypt and the Dardenelles. Prior to enlisting, he was employed at Ramsey golf links.
