Beach Buddies founder Bill Dale has spoken of his disbelief after a large amount of rubbish was found in one of the island’s glens.

One volunteer was disgusted to have to pick up a large bag of rubbish from Molly Quirk’s Glen, in Onchan, just a week after they had been to the same spot to pick up litter.

Mr Dale said: ’The Isle of Man has been setting an example to the world this last few years with its Biosphere status, environmental credibility, international recognition and unprecedented world-wide publicity, and now what appears to be a handful of total idiots are using their spare time to destroy everything.

’If anyone sees anyone, anywhere, doing anything so totally stupid then let us know, tell the police, get these people locked up and change everything.

’Sometimes, we despair.’

The waste included discarded dog waste bags, food wrappers, plastic bottles and cans of beer and cider.

There was evidence of a drinking party.

The volunteer, who has been cleaning the glen for several years, said: ’It was so disheartening to find more litter in just a week than I had picked up in the previous six months.’
