Malew Parish Commissioners have advised residents to be vigilant after a fake health official attempted to talk their way into a home.
The disturbing event happened last week to a resident of the Clagh Vane Estate, Ballasalla.
A statement from the local authority said: ’During the early morning one day last week, a person approached the open rear door on a property, did not enter but knocked on the door.
’The resident came to the door and the person stated that they were from the health department and were there to sanitize the house.
’The quick thinking resident said that he would ring the housing department first as he had not received any notification of the visit.’
The visitor then returned to their vehicle, claiming they were getting tools and equipment but instead got in and drove away.
The police have been notified of the incident.
The Commissioners added:’ In the meantime, we ask all residents to be vigilant and do not let anyone in to their home without prior knowledge/checking their identification.’
