Plans have been submitted to demolish the rear extension of the Shore Hotel in Laxey, replacing it with a small hotel and 42-seat restaurant.

Ballasalla-based company BBG limited, which owns the site, submitted the planning application [21/00336/B] seeking registered building consent to replace the pub and brewery’s rear outbuildings with a six-bedroom hotel.

All buildings to the rear of the main pub building will be demolished.

The upper floors of the pub building will also be refurbished to provide for two bedroom suites and staff/manager accommodation.

In total the hotel will consist of four en suite rooms, along with ’modern visitor facilities’.

Additional parking spaces will also be provided.

Along the side frontage of the new rear extension will be a wooden sheltered porch structure.

As the building’s location is considered to be a high flood risk area, the proposals include protections such as flood resistant doors and barriers.

Long-time landlord Paul Phillips retired in January. Now under new management, its reopening was then postponed by the recent lockdown.

Those proposing the refurbishment stated that it would represent an investment in the tourism sector. The extensive planning statement described the building as a ’landmark’ in Laxey, and said that the extension [made out of modern materials] would have no adverse impact on the surrounding area.

Today’s Examiner includes an interview with the new owners. They tell us more details.
