There will be a number of road closures due to high winds this evening. Road closures will take place on the Mountain Road and the A3 Main Road at South Barrule Plantation to the A7 Ballakillowey Roundabout from 7pm today until 9am tomorrow.

Police have said it is a 'preventative public safety measure'.

It said in a statement on social media: 'There may be disruption to transport this evening, make sure you have suitable plans to get home.'

Police have also received reports of loose wheelie bins in the road, insecure vehicles, fencing and telecom wires in the road have all been dealt with.

It said: 'Please ensure that you secure anything moveable because the winds will only get worse.' Meanwhile, a tree is down between Dreemskerry and Church Road on the coast road near Ramsey. The road is not currently passable. Currently vehicles will have to proceed via Maughold. There is currently no access to Glen Maye from the Peel side due to live power lines having been brought down. The government has said temperatures will feel cold with a sub-zero wind chill in exposed areas. Expect disruption to travel while the emergency services and the Department of Infrastructure deal with incidents. It said: 'Keep your properties and yourself safe by securing loose items in the garden and surrounding areas. There may be power outages.'
