An Onchan artist, one of whose paintings was featured in the 2020 Royal Academy of Arts Summer exhibition, is planning to locally exhibit 200 of her ’works for sale’ in the new year.
Contemporary painter Miranda Carroll said the works will range from people and animals to still life objects.
Earlier this year she submitted two works to the Royal Academy in London, one of which - her abstract, acrylic ’self portrait’ painting was accepted by judges to feature in gallery VII at their prestigious summer exhibit, where it appeared prominently on television.
It was her sister who encouraged her to apply, but she didn’t think she would get in - saying she was ’elated’ upon hearing the news.
She only later realised what an achievement it was when she learned that many established artists have submitted paintings to the exhibition year after year only to be rejected, whereas hers was accepted on her first attempt.
Miranda said the idea for the self portrait came about because ’people told me I was better at painting people than animals’, and the fact she had a background of having worked in makeup, where ’you learn to study people more’.
Miranda has been painting since primary school, having won her first art award at age 3 - and these days she paints twice a week.
