Rushen Parish Commissioners and Beach Buddies have asked for volunteers to join them in a community litter pick tomorrow (Saturday).
Commissioners’ chairman, David Radcliffe, an advocate for keeping the parish and island tidy, is driving the initiative.
Impressed by the great work of Beach Buddies in tidying up the beaches he was keen to get Rushen involved when Beach Buddies announced that they were looking to expand their activities in-land.
David said: ’The blight of litter continues to undermine the beauty of our parish and put at risk the animals and plants that live in our environment. I was delighted when Bill Dale and Beach Buddies agreed to work with us on what we hope will be the beginning of a Rushen community movement which will help keep Rushen tidy!’
Volunteers should assemble outside Ballafesson chapel at 2pm.
Litter picking will be undertaken along the main roads in and around Ballafesson, Ballakillowey and Surby.
Gloves, bags and high vis vests will be supplied.
Motorists are asked to take extra care while driving in Rushen this Saturday afternoon.
