After a wet August there was a brief taste of Indian summer in mid-September before unseasonably cold nights towards the end of the month.

The Met Office has looked back at the month and calculated the statistics.

It says that the highest temperature recorded last month was 20.4°C on September 15, the first time the island has topped 20°C in September since 2016.

In contrast the air temperature dropped to 3.9°C in the early hours of September 27, the lowest September minimum since 1993.

There were three grass frosts over that weekend, the most recorded in September since 1986.

With almost no rain between the September 12 and 22, rainfall at Ronaldsway only totalled 61.3mm, compared to the long-term mean of 75mm.

The wettest day was the 2nd when 20mm fell. Bright sunshine was 23% above normal with 170 hours recorded.

The mean wind speed for the month measured 13.5mph, slightly above the long-term mean of 12.9mph but there were no gales.

There was no fog, thunder or sleet during the month but a small amount of hail was recorded within the heavy showers on September 24.
