They may only have had a month to organise it, but the 2020 Andreas Community Show will be recorded as one of the best ever held.
Hundreds of people from across the island flocked to the village Parish Hall to celebrate Manx businesses, produce, crafts and the community.
The organising team of Jo Brew, Sarah Brown, Jackie Faragher and Belinda Leach invited people to exhibit some of the huge range of projects they had worked on during lockdown.
Entries included key workers made from boiled eggs, scarecrows, hand-spun Loaghtan wool scarves, unusual fruit and vegetables, mini rainbow gardens and much more.
Of the more than 600 entries, a third came from children including displays from Andreas School which featured abstract art, painted beach stones and a tableaux of lockdown memories which had a ’remarkably accurate’ representation of Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK.
Some of the winners from the show included Richard Oyler-Torin who won best in section for his plum, ginger and lime jam, Kathryn Revitt who won best cake with a nutty coffee tray bake with home-made praline.
Other winners were Alison Kermode who won the award for best flower arrangement in a Wellington boot, Will Revill won best in section in the fruit and vegetable class, Sandra Jones’s damson gin saw her pick up a prize as did Lorna Martin for her ’unique’ scarecrow.
The organising team extended their thanks to the 20 hampers and three vouchers donated as prizes by Manx businesses.
l The show raised £3,000 which will be split between Ayre Playgroup, Andreas School, Ayre Football Club, Andreas Endowments and Ayre Brownies.
