An international day held to champion the much-loved independent record shops will be marked in Douglas today (Saturday).
Jack Doyle, the owner of Sound Records, in the basement of 9 to 11, Duke Street, Douglas, is taking part in the worldwide Record Store Day which, since its creation in America in 2008, has helped spark a revival in music shops and vinyl music sales globally.
’I’ve always taken part in it,’ said Jack.
’By a mad coincidence, I opened my first stall on Record Store Day in 2017, and opened my shop here a year later, also on the day. Last year I was officially made part of the event, which means I get all these exclusive releases.
’I’ve got loads more this year, plenty of limited vinyl presses which have never been released before.
’Its all first-come, first-served, and you often see big rushes at six in the morning for the rare records.
’Hopefully, the popularity has repercussions for local groups selling their music too.’
