A race around the clock and around the island is to take place on May 18.

Starting at sunrise in Peel, teams complete a relay clockwise lap of the 100-mile Raad ny Foillan coastal footpath before the sun sets.

Registration for Race the Sun is now open.

The event, now in its 11th year, has been a sell-out for the past two years. In previous years it raised more than £110,000, which has been used to support children and young people in the Isle of Man through projects run by The Children’s Centre.

Prizes will be awarded to the winning fastest team, the team finishing closest to sunset and the team with the fastest time set in each leg.

The prize evening will end with a meal at the Marine Hotel in Peel.

Lisa Motley, fundraising co-ordinator for The Children’s Centre, said: ’While Race The Sun has become a competitive event in its own right, the emphasis is always on participants having a great time.

’You don’t have to be a professional to enter but we might encourage you to train a little before the run.

’It’s a great challenge and everyone who has completed in the past should feel rightly proud of their achievement.’

This year the race is sponsored by e-gaming company Annexio under its Lottogo.com brand.

The firm employs around 40 people in the island in Fort Anne, Douglas.
