Best-known as a presenter and aficionado of folk and roots, Mark Radcliffe proved there were more strings to his bow than just talking about music.
The well-known BBC radio presenter appeared at the Peel Centenary Centrelast week, alongside two of his long-time musical collaborators, Chris Lee, on mandolin, and David Russell, on the bouzouki and ukelele bass.
Mark, who has frequently enjoyed playing concerts with low-key bands alongside his career interviewing the biggest names in the music industry, effortlessly kept the sold-out crowd entertained with a set comprised of his own songs, combined with hilarious tales of his career and his life, and the banter between him and his band had the audience in hysterics.
However, the biggest cheer of the night came when he announced that this was his first concert he has sung at since recovering from treatment for throat cancer.
The outpouring of good will, coupled with a rousing, stomping version of the folk tune ’Raggle Taggle Gypsies’ brought an enjoyable ending to an equally enjoyable night.
