Manx Utilities is going to install a new water main and sewage pipe in Peel from September 7.
The work, in 60-metre sections, will see the East Quay shut for up to six months, with the scheme due to be completed up to the Boatyard by March 1.
There will be space at each end for cars and vans to turn and it will be possible for pedestrians to walk through the work area.
Utilities officials say the quayside will be accessible for marine operations.
The chairman of Manx Utilities, Tim Baker MHK, said: ’We have been working closely with all of the businesses along the route over the past few months to minimise the impact of the works in addition to contacting commissioners and MHKs to plan the activity.
’We look forward to welcoming residents to a drop-in session at the Peel Centenary Centre on Thursday, August 27, from 5pm to 7.30pm to review the pipe-laying plans.’
The first section of the work, beginning at the pumping station, is due to be completed by September 18, with the next section from Crown Street to Weatherglass corner due to begin the following Monday.
Work will then continue in sections from Weatherglass Corner to Crown Street, and then on to to Keown’s Lane, the garage, Mariner’s Wharf, Quayside Restaurant and Station Place, moving finally the House of Manannan to Boatyard. In a letter to residents, the Manx Utilities Authority said the pipe work was ’necessary irrespective of the outcome of the current planning application for the treatment works at Glenfaba and is being undertaken as permitted development under the Sewerage Act’.
