Funds are being raised to install new obstacles in Ramsey skatepark.
The park is 15 years old and is ’starting to show its age’, according to the organiser of the GoFundMe page.
Andrew Storey, a resident in Ramsey and skateboarder himself, set up the page to raise money to cover the work he wishes to be completed.
Currently over £500 has been raised of the £1,000 goal.
Andrew said: ’The ramps are starting to disintegrate.
’People aren’t necessarily saying there should be more down there but they definitely had a lot of complaints about the upkeep of the park with just how old it is and how other parks are getting upgrades.’
He wants to put a round rail and ledge in some of the unused space in the park and hopes that the £1,000 will cover the materials and labour needed.
Andrew added: ’For myself, I’ve tried to find a solution to the problem.
’I think it’s a well shared view that the park is probably in need of work, something needs to be done.’
In February of this year, Andrew injured himself while skateboarding, during his recovery he began trying to get more put into Ramsey park as he was house bound.
’I broke my foot, and I was bedridden because I had to be non-weight bearing, so me and my friend, Ben Walker, asked the commissioners how they’d feel about us having a curb made and fitted in the park,’ he said.
Recently a curb was made and donated by local business County Paving & Ornamental Ltd.
Andrew also convinced local authorities to replace the sheets on existing obstacles that needed work.
He explained other parks are being improved.
’I think as long as commissioners don’t have to pay for it, they’re happy about it.’
The page can be found under ’improvements to Ramsey skatepark ledge and rail’ on GoFundMe.
Andrew said: ’There have been some really generous donations.
’Anything given would be greatly appreciated and go a long way to supporting the local scene.’
