Madcap racers will hit the streets of Peel on Sunday as the popular soapbox derby takes place.

The action kicks off at 2pm with a new course, starting at the top of Derby Drive running down to the bottom of Stanley Road for a flying finish on the promenade.

The fast downhill race was resurrected in 2015 after a gap of 65 years and features jumps and chicanes with 20 competitors set to take part.

Peel man Kevin Oliver sparked the idea when he wrote to the commissioners, after Douglas held its soapbox derby, suggesting that Peel should hold its own.

It is organised in association with Peel Town Commissioners and this year is sponsored by Peter Dawson Tyres, Energy FM, Peel Fisheries and Davisons Ice Cream.

It was originally scheduled to take place on August 20 but was postponed due a poor weather forecast and a lower number of entrants.

Organisers of Douglas soapbox derby have said that their event will not take place this year due to ’logistical issues’, but will return next year.

Ramsey’s soapbox derby was due to be held last Sunday but was cancelled due to bad weather.

A new date for the event is yet to be confirmed.
