The Manx Solidarity Fund has donated £17,000 to Cruse Bereavement Care.
It is one of the fund’s most significant donations since it was set up earlier this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Cruse is a Manx-registered charity that provides bereavement support to children, young people and adults.
Amanda Cafearo, chief executive officer at Cruse said: ’The Covid-19 situation has had a huge impact on our finances and we are anticipating that the year ahead will also be challenging.
’Having the support of the Manx Solidarity Fund has meant that we can look ahead with great comfort that we can be here for the bereaved.
’Our support is now more important than ever and the number of calls to our service since restrictions have lifted reflects this.
’Those suffering a loss during a pandemic are likely to deal with distressing circumstances and Cruse gives bereaved people somewhere to access the specialist support that they need.’
Sam Skelton, director of Cruse Bereavement Care, said: ’All at Cruse are so very grateful for the funding which the MSF has provided as this will allow us to run our children’s bereavement services during 2021.
’There is no doubt that Covid 19 has severely challenged Cruse both operationally and financially but thanks to our many volunteers and supporters, which now include the MSF, we have largely weathered the storm and very much remain able to serve the local community’s needs in relation to bereavement services.
’On behalf of the board of Cruse and all working in the charity I thank all who have contributed to the MSF and of course the fund itself for providing this much needed support to us.’
Melanie Kermeen, marketing director of the Manx Solidarity Fund, said: ’When we read about and considered the work that Cruse does in the island and how the charity has been affected by the pandemic, it was a unanimous decision to approve their application for financial assistance.
’The charity’s plight was aligned with the applications criteria and objects of our charity, as we endeavour to assist individuals, businesses and charities on the island that have been negatively impacted by Covid-19.
’The work that Cruse does for so many local families is cherished, providing a very special lifeline within our community.
’It has been interesting to learn more about the amazing service that Cruse provides and we are delighted to be able to help ensure the sustainability of this local charity through a difficult time.’
