The team behind People of Colour Isle of Man (PoC IoM) have been working hard in recent months to curate the perfect family day on the grounds of The Nunnery.
PoC IoM is a collaborative group working towards creating a centralised voice for issues in the black and PoC community on the island.
On Saturday (August 21), their first ever ’Culture Festival’ is taking place between 11am and 11pm.
The festival is split into two halves, first there is a ’family day’, before the event takes on the theme of a festival, and becomes ’over 18’s only’ after 9pm.
There are promises of music, food, market stalls, entertainment and ’so much more.’
The day kicks off with music from David Castro, followed by Sound Records, NOVA, Elkae, Toucan Party, Lava, Manavia and Mother Funkers.
The evening will be rounded off with music from headliners Buncha Skankers.
PoC IoM said: ’The team have been working hard to curate a fantastically fun-filled day to be hosted on The Nunnery grounds.
’We are hoping that Culture Fest is an event that is accessible to everyone. With live music and DJs from the start, the vibe is going to be immaculate.
’We have managed to secure food caterers that reflect the diversity that the Isle of Man has to offer. We also have a range of free children’s activities led by established local companies, as well as educational workshops held by Manx-led charities.
’We know that there is something for everyone to enjoy at Culture Fest, whether it’s something they already know, or something new.’
Newfield have sponsored a free bus service with Bus Vannin to run from the north, south and the west (timetables can be found on the festival website).
They added: ’Come on
down with the whole family - bring your chairs and picnic blankets, and soak up the sun (fingers crossed), the music, and the culture. We cannot wait to see everyone there!’
Tickets are £10 for adults, under 18’s go free.
Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult at all times. After the event at The Nunnery, there will be an official after party at Peggy’s.
