The airport’s former deputy director will be returning to television screens on Monday in a new series about the aviation industry.

Jeremy Spake, who shot to fame in 90s documentary series Airport, resigned from his role at Ronaldsway in March after taking up the position in 2018.

At the time of his resignation Mr Spake suggested in a LinkedIn social media post that his departure had been hastened ‘Having been subjected to bullying, harassment and mobbing on an almost industrial scale’.

In March, the Department of Infrastructure confirmed Mr Spake’s departure, but said it wouldn’t be commenting further on the allegations.

‘The Airport: Back in the Skies’ sees Mr Spake return to Heathrow where he was ground services manager for Russian airline Aeroflot when the original programme was filmed. The new four-part series looks at how the industry is trying to bounce back after the Covid pandemic. Much of the filming for it was done when Mr Spake was still in his role at Ronaldsway.

It begins on BBC1 at 8.30pm on Monday, May 9.

Meanwhile, Minister of Infrastructure Tim Crookall confirmed earlier this week that a new director had been appointed at the airport and would take up the role in three months’ time.
