Fifty swimmers took part in a sponsored swim a mile for blood cancer charity Myeolma UK - about one for each of the island patients currently dealing with the condition.

The event, which was organised by Mary Doyle, took place at the Western Swimming Pool, in Peel and included a cake sale and an aquafit session led by Mary. It raised more than £1,680 for the UK charity, which supports people and their families with myeloma and is carrying out research into treatments.

Pictured are Amy Davenport and Yvonne Donlan, who manned the cake stall.

Mary thanked everyone that took part, saying: ’I was so touched by the generosity of everyone that supported this event.

’This is an incredible amount to raise so thank you so much all and as always thank you to the Western Swimming Pool Board and to Kath, Phil, Danny and all the team at the Western Swimming Pool for their ongoing support.’
