The Department of Infrastructure is failing in its commitment to keep the railway station toilets open for bus passengers in Port Erin.

That’s the view of the local authority, which is planning to raise the issue with the department.

The main bus station was moved from Bridson Street to the railway station as part of a regeneration scheme.

Toilet facilities and shelter are provided at the station, but they are only open during the day in the winter months.

Commissioner Gerry Callister said the situation is ’terrible, there are people waiting there in the rain’.

Phil Crellin added: ’I have a memory of them (the department) saying it would be open until 11pm. There have been lots of comments the toilets are not open.’

Mr Callister said toilets were meant to be open until the last bus goes.Mr Crellin suggested they refer to the minutes of previous meetings with the department and ’if we are right go to the DoI.’
