A Ramsey couple did not let Covid-19 get in the way of their planned wedding date.

They instead exchanged vows in their sunny garden.

Stephanie Bee and Darren Marsh marked their big day in a slightly smaller way than anticipated by holding it at home with their household and with their parents watching on from a safe distance, writes Jess Ward.

Darren’s 13-year-old son, Ashton, ’fake’ married the couple who also gave each other their rings for the occasion.

Stephanie said: ’We were initially devastated when our big day was at risk of being cancelled and when this was confirmed with only six weeks to go we decided to create our own special memory.

’On what would have been our wedding day on May 2, a day we have been looking forward to for many years, we instead held a little family ceremony in our back garden.’

Their moment was captured on iPhones and a GoPro set up around the garden.

Their original wedding plans would have seen them get married at Ramsey Park Hotel with 80 daytime guests and 40 evening guests in attendance.

They had put much effort into preparations to personalise the wedding with DIY projects ongoing for the past 12 months.

’One of projects was a wedding arch Darren had constructed, so he put this together on our corona wedding day for a trial run,’ said Stephanie.

Exactly £15 was spent on flowers from Marks and Spencers (M&S) for the bridal bouquet, the groom’s button hole and the wedding arch with some left over for their wedding cake - a Colin the Caterpillar cake.

’Our corona wedding cake paid tribute to the Connie and Colin "bride and groom" wedding cakes which we had ordered from M&S... our order obviously cancelled.

’I borrowed a little white dress from my mum so I could save "the dress" for our new official day.

’Darren and Ashton wore their wedding suits and our daughters Georgia, aged two, and Charlotte, aged nine months, wore their flower girl dresses.

’They won’t fit next year so will be dress shopping again for them and my niece Melissa.’

The ceremony ended with a barbecue, washed down with a few glasses of fizz.

Presents were sent in from friends and family members along with messages of love.

Stephanie added their corona wedding will ’certainly be one to tell the grandchildren’.

A new wedding date has been set for May 8 2021 when they will officially become Mr and Mrs Marsh.

They thanked their suppliers for accommodating them under these ’very unusual circumstances’ and look forward to working and celebrating with everyone next year.
