Shoprite on Arbory Street, Castletown, has changed its hours to 9am-6pm Monday to Sunday and will, unfortunately, no longer be able to offer the 8am-9am shopping hours for senior citizens, the vulnerable, NHS, emergency and care workers.

Little Shoprite stores at St Paul’s Square, Ramsey and Michael Street, Peel as well as Winerite Extra in Douglas will temporarily close on Sundays.

Shoprite says it wants to put the message out ‘don’t forget your brolly’ when coming to their stores as if the weather changes the social distancing policy will mean there may be some very wet customers in the queues.

We may need to consider sun stroke in the coming weeks as well...

Whether you’re young or young at heart, as a family or on your own, Southern Befrienders would like to ask our generous community and beyond to write a letter, a card, draw/paint a picture for us to send on to the older and vulnerable people we are supporting who are feeling even more alone right now. Keep it sunshine, happiness, love, hope, fun!

Please send your letter or picture to

Boredom Buddies, Southern Befrienders, Thie Rosien, Castletown Road, PE IM9 1AE

Also...please send us a stamp for every letter/card/drawing you send us to help us with our rocketing postage costs at this time - if you are able to without putting yourself at risk by going out to buy them.

Any replies will be posted on our fb page and website.

Please do not offer help i.e shopping, as we have that covered thank you.

We will not give out any personal contact details.

Keep sending them (with stamps if possible) so we can continue over the coming weeks and months.

THE Family Library is reducing some of its services as part of measures to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

However, alternative plans have been made to ensure its outreach programme continues to reach the most vulnerable members of the community and ensure they are not left isolated.

Users of the Mobile Library Service have received an increased delivery of books to last until the end of April, instead of receiving new materials on a fortnightly basis.

Home library deliveries are also being increased to ensure borrowers have two months’ worth of books to take them through until May, while extra books are being delivered to the reception area of residential homes.

In addition, Bibliotherapy sessions have been cancelled until further notice. Bibliotherapy allows island residents to engage with each other and keep their minds active while having friendly discussions around topics suggested by librarians.

The Family Library, situated next to the children’s playground in Westmoreland Road, Douglas, remains open to the public and is running most weekly clubs and classes, although some separate events have been postponed or cancelled.

BEACH Buddies has received a large number of messages asking our advice on whether beach cleaning activities should continue in the current circumstances.

For those who go out on their own, or in very small groups with friends or family, then the current situation (at the moment) is that we believe it’s OK. We ALWAYS advise that volunteers wear gloves and use litter pickers (which we supply). This is more important now than ever before.

But everything is subject to change, very much dependent on advice from the government.

However, we have decided to call off our weekend events, as we normally get a minimum of 50 volunteers each time. But we don’t see a problem (at the moment) with small groups such as families going out on their own.

If the situation changes we will make an announcement immediately.

Da Vinci’s is saddened by the necessity to close our doors, however we know that this may be the only solution to slow the spread and hopefully prevent more cases of the Corona Virus.

However amidst the chaos, we are setting up a solution to allow you to still access our fantastic cocktails and other beverages in the comfort of your own home! Professionally made cocktails delivered to your door? Who would have thought?!?

We are also aiming to set up a party for the front line staff after this is all over, donating like for like to the event, but we need your help. You buy a sex on the beach, a sex on the beach gets donated. The organisation of this event is underway, with the aim of simply thanking all of the people who are dealing with the virus up close and personal, for all their hard work. This includes medical staff, police, fire brigade and cleaners that still have to go to work to put out the fires caused by this virus.
