An unusual and innovative sea-scape painting took the top prize in a recent open art exhibition.
’Fishscape’, painted by Jean Buck, won the trophy for the public’s favourite painting at the Mannin Art Group’s open art exhibition, which came to a close last weekend.
The Maughold-based painter was awarded the Ramsey Commissioner’s shield by Michelle Quayle, the chair of the northern art society, for her painting after receiving the most votes during the fortnight-long exhibition, held at St Paul’s Hall.
Her painting received praise for its clever and innovative design, which mixed together fired glass and highly-colourful, painted silk.
Pam Jacobsen, the secretary of the Mannin Art Group, said the unusual mix of materials made the picture stand out.
’It was a very unusual piece, using fired glass on silk,’ said Pam.
’Jean Buck is well-known on the island for her silk painting, but this was something a little bit different.’
The winner of the raffle also received his prize during the closing ceremony.
Peter Neal was presented with an original painting by Michael Starkey.
Peter is a collector of the well-known Ramsey-based artist’s work and already owns several of Michael’s originals.
The closing ceremony brought an end to the long-running art group’s celebrations for its 70th anniversary.
