After three decades providing a ’Touch of Class’ to the ladies of Onchan, Sue Hine is bowing out, but she’s not hanging her scissors up just yet.
Sue has run the Touch of Class women’s hairdressers in Avondale Court in Onchan for 30 years and has now been recognised for her longevity by community leaders.
To mark the end of her ownership of her hairdressers, Mrs Hine was joined by friends and family and was presented by flowers from the deputy chairman of Onchan Commissioners.
Sue, who was described as a ’popular figure in Onchan and well-known for her hairdressing skills and friendly nature’ by one friend, said that while she is preparing to hand over the shop, she isn’t giving up hairdressing totally..
She said: ’I have loved being part of the local community.
’I have made my friends over the years but now the time has come to work a little less.’
Representing the local authority, deputy chairman Anthony Allen said: ’I wish to thank and praise Sue for her contribution to our village which, as well as the success she had enjoyed she has also attracted many people to shop at the other outlets in the village.’
However, customers will still be able to see Sue as she will work with new owner of the Avondale Court salon, Clare Jackson.
Clare, who runs he Studio 16 hairdressers in the village is set to move in this month.
Clare said: ’The additional space the new salon will provide me gives me the opportunity I’ve been waiting for to grow my hair-dressing business.
’I’m also so pleased Sue will be working alongside me and I look forward to welcoming and meeting her many customers. Another plus for the business will be the customer car park right outside the front door as well as the regular bus service which stops close by.’
Studio 16 will be opening from Monday to Saturday with late nights Wednesday and Thursday. For more information ring 475416 or search Studio 16 on Facebook.
