Children from Sulby School visited Noble’s Hospital’s children’s ward to donate craft supplies.

The pupils raised £178 through a cake sale for the ward organised by the children and teachers.

Sixteen schoolchildren visited the children’s ward on Thursday to give craft supplies to the patients.

Deputy head teacher, Penny Doran, expressed her pride at seeing the children take on the project with such dedication.

’The children ran the cake sale and they handled all of the money themselves,’ she said.

Fifteen boxes of craft supplies were donated which held items such as watercolour paints, colouring pencils, felt tip pens, pirate hats, tiaras and beads and elastic for bracelets.

Mrs Doran said the children had been inspired to support the children’s ward because some of the pupils had spent time there previously.

She added that the pupils were ’very excited’ about the hospital visit and that it was a rewarding experience for them.

’It is only fair that since they raised the money they get to give the boxes out.

’It’s good for the children to see where it’s all going,’ she said.

She added: ’It was nice being able to see the older kids working with some of the younger children as well.’

The sale took place on March 4 after much planning by the pupils within their charity action group.

Sulby School has seven different action groups which involve charity and giving back to the community, and they work in collaboration with organisations such as Beach Buddies.

They involve children in years two to six (ages six to 11) who vote in September on which action group they wish to join.

The pupils of the charity action group have six to eight sessions during the year, one of which they spent planning the cake sale.
