Armed services veterans will be among those marching in an event in Douglas on Sunday.

Sunday is Armed Forces Day 2019, which will celebrate the role local servicemen and women have played in conflict and peacekeeping the world over.

This year the event will be marking the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings and post Second World War conflicts in which many attending will have participated

A march from Regent Street, Douglas, will begin at 3pm and parade along Douglas promenade.

Reserves, veterans of all services, emergency services, schools, and uniformed organisations will be taking part in this year’s parade with music by the Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band.

The organisers hope that members of the public will line the route towards the Villa Marina to show their support.

Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney and the Deputy Mayor of Douglas will be taking the salute at the Villa Marina colonnade.

At 3.45pm a religious service will take place and will be followed by other commemorations in support of the armed forces in the Villa Marina Royal Hall.

A multi-medium presentation honouring the work and sacrifice of the armed services will also be led by students from Ballakermeen High School before an evening of dancing and entertainment from local stars and the D Day Darlings.

Armed Forces Day will include family friendly outdoor entertainment in the Villa Marina Gardens throughout the day, starting at 10.30am.

It is free to attend.
