It is 25 years since Brahma Kumaris was established in the island and it has run hundreds of courses and workshops in Raja Yoga meditation, positive thinking, self-esteem and stress-free living.
The next event, a talk, is held this Tuesday, September 3. Joanna Kitto, who co-ordinates the island centre, explained how it was established.
She said: ’I first came across the Brahma Kumaris when I was living in Hong Kong over 30 years ago. Living in Asia, I became interested in learning meditation ... I came across the Raja Yoga Meditation Centre right in the midst of the busyness of Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island.
’It really helped me to deal with a difficult situation I was going through at the time and taught me that I don’t need to look outside for peace and happiness, I already have everything I need inside. This was a huge freedom and the meditation gave me the tools to implement that understanding in my life. I quickly gained a lot of inner strength and emotional independence.’
She set up the centre -now in Anagh Coar - when she moved back to the island in 1993.
’I often bump into people who tell me what they learned in our courses have given them tools to successfully manage and get the most out of their lives. helped them at a critical time and are still helping them today,’ she said.
’Others have been coming for years, and just love the warm, friendly atmosphere of the centre.’
On Tuesday, Charlie Hogg, director of Brahma Kumaris Australia, will explore ’Do you dare to embrace all of who you truly are and reclaim your inner power?’ from 7pm to 8.30pm in the Studio Theatre, Ballakermeen High School.
