Tynwald Mills is sponsoring the award for teamwork at this year’s Isle of Man Newspapers’ Awards for Excellence.
Teamwork is at the heart of everything at Tynwald Mills.
The company employs up to 120 people, depending on the time of year, and the whole team needs to work together to give customers a great shopping experience, whether it be through a friendly face and a willingness to help and advise or by sourcing and stocking brands that people want to buy.
Marketing and project manager Matthew McSevney said: ’For us, it’s how we all work together to serve customers better. How you pull together all the individual skills and know that you can rely on other people in the team to achieve the bigger picture. In any service industry, the people and how they work together are a reflection of the business.’
Especially so as Tynwald Mills is a store-based operation and that teamwork goes towards differentiating the kind of shopping experience they can offer from what is available on the internet. It’s all about giving customers a relaxing few hours in which to browse the clothes and try them on, backed up by expert advice on hand when it’s needed, or to stop for a cup of coffee or a bite of lunch with a friend - all the things you can’t get on the internet.’
Matthew added: ’We are here for those days when shopping should be a pleasure rather than a necessity and that goes for every department in the business.
’We pride ourselves on offering something for all the family, including the ever-popular deli, inspiring furnishings at House and Home, the latest in menswear and an updated play area for children.’
For this reason, among others, Tynwald Mills won the prestigious Company of the Year category at the 2015 Awards for Excellence. The judges were impressed at how the company had grown its market share in spite of challenging conditions for retail and how it had innovated through introducing its customer Rewards card and numerous new brands.
Tynwald Mills has also been an Awards for Excellence sponsor every year since it first began 12 years ago.
Matthew said: ’We think of this as another aspect of teamwork. It’s all about supporting the local community and being part of "Team Isle of Man".
’Every year the Awards Night is a wonderful showcase for all the very best on the island, in business, public sector and charity and we are very proud to have been part of that since the beginning.’
