A teenager was injured in Peel after jumping off the harbour wall onto a Viking longboat on Sunday.

Peel Coastguard said they were called to assist the injured teenager who had jumped from the harbour side into the water without checking first.

As a result they landed on the deck of one of the Viking boats that are tied up at the top end of the marina.

On arrival they discovered members of the public had assisted the teenager back onto the harbour side.

They were checked over by paramedics before being taken to hospital for further checks.

A Coastguard statement said: ’Team members spoke to the group of teenagers about the dangers of jumping into the harbour and after they witnessed their friend before hurt, they carried on jumping in!

’Not only it is illegal to jump/swim in the harbours around the island, it is also dangerous as today proved.’
