A highly-respected and much-missed figurehead of the island’s music scene was remembered by having a stage named after him during the weekend

One of the three music stages placed along the promenade during the Peel Carnival was rechristened the ’Anglin Buttimore’ stage, in memory of the late musician and sound engineer Anglin Buttimore, who died earlier this year.

Formerly known as the ’Horizon’ stage, and situated halfway along Peel Promenade, the stage was opened by Anglin’s wife Jen, who picked up a guitar herself and sang a set of her own favourite songs, as well as a couple of Anglin’s, to a crowd of friends and well-wishers, who gave her a well-deserved and rapturous reception .

She also gave the crowd a few choice tales of her experiences with Anglin and his career in music.

Anglin was an ever-present figure during the carnival and helped provide, set up the equipment and look after the sound for all the live music on the day.

Following Jen’s set, Anglin’s former band Clash Vooar played a greats set of jazz and folk-tinged originals, with Jack Mclean taking his place behind the keyboards.

They were followed by the rock covers group Symbollix and rock and roll punks Mad Daddy.
